Hotel Chocolat Lip Balm Review

I don't know about you, but when I stumble into (more like arrive into, after hunting the store down before i can head anywhere else) Hotel Chocolat, a thought runs through my mind every. single. time. 

''If only there were something that i can slather all over my lips that looks AND tastes like chocolate? hmmmm''

Low and behold *angels sing* there sat small, cute, wooden pots holding such a product.

Hotel Chocolat have only gone and brought out their own lip balm! 

Willy Wonka missed a trick here!

1. Packaging

Wouldn't you just looooook! I'm going all heart eyed emoji over here.

I have never seen a such a cute and compact yet luxuriously rustic lip balm in all my 25 years. I've never seen any packaging like this being offered amongst the usual lip balm brands.

When you grasp the soft wooden pot in your hands, if feels so deluxe. On the top and bottom of the pot is a Hotel Chocolat simple yet fitting label for the info needed.

2. Price

Please oh pretty please don't gasp when I tell you this ok?

You promise?

Ok, this lip balm costs £7.00.

I shall admit, a wee bit of air passed through my lips when i saw the price but we are talking Hotel Chocolat. A fancy, lavish chocolate store that always deliver quality and per-ZAZZ.

(Unsure of wether this is a promotional offer or an ongoing offer but online at Hotel Chocolat they are offering 2 for £10 mix & match, perfect if your buying for a gift)

3. Scent/Flavour

There's 4 to choose from including:

Almond Chocolat

Peach Chocolat

Coconut Chocolat

Fruited Chocolat

4. Formula

If you have experienced biting into Hotel Chocolat's dizzy praline chocolates, you may remember the texture inside that was thick, yet silky and of course delicious.

I don't know if this was Hotel Choclat's intensions but scoop the middle of a dizzy praline out and you've got this lip balms formula.

If you've never had a dizzy praline, 1. your missing out on a treat! 2. The formula is thick but loose, when applied onto the lips it feels like an oil when warmed from the finger tips giving a luscious juicy lip look. 

5. Ingredients

In this particular balm, the natural blend of ingredients include almond oil and cocoa butter (what a combo) rosemary leaf extract and beeswax. All blended together to make a natural, vegetarian lip balm for us to slather on our puckers. 

Hotel Chocolat do emphasise that all of their products are made in a factory that handles tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, milk and soya so therefore may contain traces.

6. Feel & Look

The balm is a silky but rich formula that feels almost like a glaze on the lips. Applied to thick, it could feel a little much as a small amount can go a long way. 

Although the Almond Chocolat has a cocoa tint in colour, this doesn't particularly show on the lips, maybe a slight hue. But it does however give a juicy plump appearance and leaves your lips feeling softer and hydrated after first use.

Simple Eye Cream Review

Eye bags that i can fit my kitchen sink into? Puffy eyes that look like I've been in a fight (and lost) with Anthony Joshua? Tired dark circles that look like 2019's version of the solar eclipse?

Yep, me too & I'm sorry, i'm not having it anymore. No sir-ee!

Off i went to the shops to find me an inexpensive BUT effective eye cream and i knew what brand to check out first and of course it was simple, it was Simple! ;);) 

Simple do the most.. well.. simplest of products that don't contain anything you wouldn't want to put on to your skin, you know all those mumbo jumbo words in the ingredients you not sure where to begin with pronouncing? yeah those ones. I knew that if i was putting something under my peepers i wanted it to be kind and sensitive just how i like my men.

Packaging

When purchased, your soft 15ml tube of eye balm with come in a cardboard box which gives you all the info you need to know about the product. 

The tube of balm comes in soft matte bottle with a narrow spout for easier flow of product. 

With the tube being soft, it not only means when you think you have ran out... SNIP goes the scissors and voila you have a few weeks worth of product still tucked up in the corners of the bottle. 

It's super easy to squeeze and control how much you apply. 

Ingredients

Simple's soothing balm contains Jojoba Oil, which basically comes from a shrub called Simmondsia Chinensis (totally copied and pasted that) which helps to treat sores and bruises. This must be where the soothing property comes from. 

As well containing pro-vitamin B5 which helps to heal wounds and moisturise. Vitamin E is also added in here to help reduce inflammation (i.e our puffy the vampire slayers) & has anti-aging benefits.

Along with all of it's ingredients, this balm contains Bisabolol which is basically the essential oil from German Chamomile which is renowned for it's soothing properties as well as helping irritated skin. 

The Consistency

When i noticed this 'cream' was in fact a balm, it made me to try it even more. I know don't why. I think it was because to me a balm sounds like it's really going to soothe down my extra eye baggage.

The balm itself is a milky gel like formula. It's not thick like a cream and has a loose water like feel upon the touch. 

Application

 I was concerned about the gel like texture as previous gel products tend to leave a film under my eyes, which NO THANK YOU *washes off instantly*. But this product blends right in leaving a soft, calmed like effect to my tired little eyeballs. 

I like to apply a grain of rice amount to my ring finger & pat pat pat niiiiiice and gently. I apply it under my eyes, to the sides, inner corner and brow bone. 

The Results 

IT IS SO SENSITIVE! The relief of no stinging is bliss. There is nothing but a refreshing cool, calm and soothing feel when applied.

When i apply it of an evening, i wake up with barely needing to apply any more the next morning. Although, i still do. I love how refreshing and awakening my under eyes feel when using this balm from simple. 

I really like how it feels underneath my makeup. I find that it helps to moisturise my under eyes to minimise my concealer from creasing throughout the day. 

Would I recommend?

It's Simple (hehe i'm at it again) absolutely!

June Favourites

Oh didn't June go quick!!

Blimey were now in the 7 month of the year! Get your Christmas lists ready kids!

Lets have a wee little ponder at what has taken my fancy throughout this blast of a month. 

1. Love

It was my husband and I's 10 year 'together anniversary'. 10 years of being life partners, soulmates, boyfriend and girlfriend, i love you buddies, prince and princess just to name a few descriptions.

We didn't have a fancy smansy meal, but what we did do is celebrate with one of our favourite passed times of having a home cooked meal and snuggle on the sofa whilst binging on a series on Netflix.

2. Jessica Jones. 

My husband had to twist my arm to get me into watching the marvel series on Netflix, starting with the Jessica jones series. After so many marvel series binged, I have to say I'M HOOKED to them!

The latest series to appear to our screens was the 3rd series of Jessica Jones and ooft it was a gooden'.

It had action, power, tears and more action, my bum was tightly clenched to my seat most episodes. 

3. Podcasts. 

Instead of music in June, my ears opted for something a little different in the form of podcasts. 

The series i have been listening to is from a gorgeous and oh so inspirational lady called Jenna Kutcher. Jenna has a podcast called GOAL DIGGER, offering so many tips, tricks for your business and life in general. Her voice is soothing, motivating and inspiring to listen too.

I also feel a little bit more productive when i'm commuting as i know my brain is learning little by little and not off into a dream land listening to Mariah Carey envisioning myself driving with the roof down instead of on a bus. 

There we have a few lil tit bits of what i have loved throughout the month of June.

The packaging itself is beautiful. 

The palette comes in an additional cardboard box which matches the exterior of the main palette. I love the metallic pastel theming and the luxurious feel to touch.

I love the bright sunset oranges, they draw my eyes instantly & i am in LOVE with the 4 middle soft nudes to add a bit of dimension to the eyelid.

Now to tackle my mulberry bags. Me don't want dark circles that look so puffed up they could keep me afloat. This is why i take an eye cream to calm down my puffy eye bags, to sooth and awaken them from last nights sleep & to keep them moisturised to prevent any wrinklage. 

Simple's soothing eye balm feels so gentle yet refreshing to my under peepers and sinks in so quickly without any stinging or sensitivity.

Now i look like i have slept for 87678 hours, i apply the last step of my skincare routine which is lip balm. I want luscious, kissable lips and to achieve and keep this i use the Vaseline lip balm, mine is the aloe vera 'flavour' which has SPF 15 to prevent sun damage on the ol' smackers. 

It's super lightweight, not heavy or sticky & most importantly feels comfortable to wear.

There we have it, my springtime skincare routine. I love all of these products as it's barely any faff to do this off a morning. I feel, clean, cleansed, toned and protected from the sun and not forgetting a lighter load from sorting those eye bags out.

Essence Fresh and Fit Healthy Glow Foundation Review

Let's take a look into why you should purchase this inexpensive but fabulous foundation from Essence. 

1. Price
It's £5.00!! For 30ml you will be getting a quality foundation for such an affordable price. 

2. Packaging
Not all foundations have the easiest packaging to work with. Although i do personally prefer plastic packaging (i love that you get every last drop), the pump has a slow pressing release that gives you complete control as to how much comes out, which means no flooding of foundation on the back of your hand to waste.

3. Coverage
You can easily use less product to give a light, thin layer. Add a little more and you will see blemishes being blurred but your skin still being visible. Add an additional layer, you will achieve a high coverage that still looks natural, yet covers all imperfections.

4. Finish
With it's vitamin complex and cranberry water, automatically when first pumped you will see it's light whipped like texture; Then when the product is applied with hands or a brush, you will accomplish a smooth textured look, that has light reflecting particles to give an awaken look to the skin whilst working along side a natural glow.

5. Feel
The cranberry water adds to the natural and fresh feeling that is left on the skin. It is smooth to touch and feels lightweight on the skin. 

6. Longevity
When applied in the morning, with a blot or two around my sweaty areas through out the day, i can get away with happily wearing this foundation for as long as necessary. I have no qualms that it wouldn't last a good 12 hours, with a good set right after application.

The Diva Cup Review

Are we ready to talk all things inserting a silicone funnel shaped cup into our foofoos?

Right then, lets get 'stuck in'!

What is a diva cup you ask?

The Diva Cup is a menstrual cup that is worn internally to collect menstrual blood flow.

What's it made from?

A natural un-pigmented, 100% health grade silicone. Latex, BPA, plastic, dye and chemical free.

Does it come in different sizes?

Yes. 3 in fact.
Model 0: 18 years and under. It is smaller than model 1 by 1/8th inch in diameter.

Model 1: Under 30 years with a medium flow who have never delivered vaginally or by a caesarean section. 

Model 2: 30 years and over and/or those who have delivered vaginally or by caesarean section & who have a heavier flow. It is 1/8th inch bigger in diameter than model 1.

(The Diva cup is a soft silicone bell shaped cup that can with body heat, form to your body)

How long can it be worn for?

Up to 10 - 12 hours maximum. 
It does however need to be emptied, washed and rinsed 2-3 times daily. It is only to be worn during menstruation and not during any other time in the month. 


How long does the Diva Cup last for? 

With regular inspection, it's life span can vary. A general guideline is to replace once a year. If signs of deterioration, sticky or powdery film, severe discolouration, odour then replace with a new one straight away. 


Benefits: 

On the Diva cup, there's a feature of measurements to enable you to keep check of how much you collect. 
Model 0: Holds 17ml
Model 1&2: Holds 30ml

No odour. Odour is produced when it is exposed to the air. As it is worn inside this = no odour.

My Experience

Where did i buy the Diva Cup?
I brought my Diva Cup from amazon, for £17.97. But that price can always fluctuate and be even cheaper. It was the cheapest place i found it as Superdrug sell it for £25.00!
Although, worth mentioning it is only free delivery when you spend £20.00. So worth having a mooch around for something else to tot up the total to avoid delivery charges.
It came 2 days later, so super fast shipping!

Initial Thoughts

Packaging: I thought the box was great fun. Pretty colours and well presented. It had information all around to grab your interest and quick and easy to read diagrams on the side to give you a glimpse of what's to come. It comes in such a cute little cotton drawstring bag too, to keep clean and tidy when not in use.

Information: Inside held a info booklet, in many a different languages. Although the print being small to read, it was laid out with clear instruction of what to do in all areas of the Diva Cup experience.

Product Itself: Inspecting the cup closely, i saw little tiny wholes dotted around the rim, one being block (one for the sewing kit needle to get through) quickly came apparent that they helped with the suction process.

The little spout, i first thought was open. Racking my brain as to how the cup even holds the blood was beyond me, until i look closer (admittedly have bad eye sight and ironically couldn't find my glasses doh) that it was in fact closed. ah harrr.

Ways of Folding

I then had a go at the different ways and shapes that you can go about inserting this up in your down below. Following the step by step diagram, i'm feeling quietly curious as to how on earth this going to go. When moulding the cup, it was surprising easy. Flexible, but not flingy.

Before Use

I assigned a mini saucepan from poundland to be my DIVA CUP SAUCEPAN which can be stored away until needed again. (well kept out the way of my husband, who might misplace it for cooking the frozen veg in lol)
Plopped the Diva cup into the pan with boiling water and gently simmered on a low heat for about 5 minutes. This then sanitised it before use. Letting it cool down before taking it out, i then placed it on some kitchen towel, air dried and then popped it back in it's carrier until my ovaries were ready for action.

1st Ever Try

Ngl, i usually dread realising i have to go and grab a sanitary towel/tampon (dependant on mood) when i come on my period. But this timeeee. I knew i could use my new ' bloody gadget ' and take it for a spin.

Already boiling it, i decided to go another step to further to clean it before use. So i just ran it under some lukewarm water and used some of my femfresh was to give it a little lather making sure to throughly wash it after to avoid irritation.

After watching Diva Cup's video on youtube with some helpful tips i decide the stand and squat would be my best bet as this usually works well when using a tampon.
Choosing my desired technique of origami fold it would seem, i decided to for the 'flatten and role' fold.

It was less messy than i anticipated, as my flow wasn't full on at this stage. My only concerns at this point was how the flip will i know, when the cup as opened and i'm good to go.
The leaflet and video, suggest to turn the cup clockwise when inserted, to release the fold and ensure the cup is suctioned onto the vaginal walls.

Did this. After a bit of a fumble round, i was able to turn it and was pleasantly surprised when i felt good to go and get on with the day.
My main concern was the little sticky out funnel section of the cup, i was worried that i would be able to feel it sticking out when i walked or sat down. The information from Diva Cup told me to insert the cup until the little 'stick part?' was even with your VAAAAAGINAL OPENINGGG. (i just had to capitalise that for less of a cringe worthy read)
Doing this, relieved me, as i didn't feel anything at all really. Yes i felt let's say, the rim? of the cup, suctioned on to my internal walls, but it wasn't uncomfortable. I was shooketh. Revolutionary, i thought.

After around 6 hours, i thought, better see how it's doing and give it a swill out. (purely out of curiosity and impatience to see it in all it's unabsorbed glory)

To give you un-pictured but graphic example, i collected around 7ml? About at the way point. This was only after, the spillage of all spillage occurred. I was not prepared for the very uncomfortable feeling and view i was putting my body through. Inserting fingers, you have to press against the cup, to loosen suction, else when the cup passes through below deck, the feeling of a 'pop' like sensation down there, would be rather painful.

Tucking in on the cup, i then began to pull it out. Not aware of the angle my body was positioned in crouched over the loo, the cup then spilt on to my bathroom floor and resulted in what only looked like a vampires paradise.

Emptying my cup into the loo was rather mesmerising. I then cleaned up my mess to prevent sharks swimming up my loo smelling the scent of fresh blood, i then hobbled into the bathroom (separate bathroom to toilet you see) to then swill the Diva Cup out. Cleaned out quick and easy, i decided to opt for the second 'squish and hold' fold. This was so much easier to insert as well as it releasing on it's own and made the whole, turning clockwise technique a lot easier.

Later that evening, i repeated this and inserted the cup into my blooming flower for the foreseeable  night to come. Waking up, it had been around 9 hours, that my cup had been in. Aware to be slow and careful, i managed to arrange the cup in a way as it came out, to not spill evvvvvverywhere. BE WARNED. It's a good job i woke up when i did, because the cup was ready to OVERFLOW!!
Were talking the whole 30ml here.

After cleaning, getting on with day, i did notice sometimes, that when taking the Diva cup out, the rim of it would almost scrape against the walls of my vagina to be blunt and cause me GREAT discomfort. But with taking it slow and to make sure i've got a good bend in the cup before taking it out of my body, made it easier.

I didn't need to take it out, empty and clean whilst being outside of the house this time of the month, but i do worry at little at how i'm going to get on with mess and faff when in a public confined cubicle, but we shall wait and see for that one.

TOP TIP

Take your Diva Cup out in the shower.
Yes, it does look like you are tipping a jar of beetroot juice down your plug whole, but trust me, it's not much less faffffffff. You can spread out, open and free and release your collection without being concerned about drip dropping all of the place in your loo.

Avoid leaving it for 12 hours.
The longer you leave it until you empty the cup means more probability that it may over flow. When this happens, it's just like when you leak with a pad or tampon. It doesn't gush out don't worry.
But esp when your in mid week on your period/at your heaviest is best to empty every 2-3 hours. This will then mean, taking it out will be easier due to less blood being collected.

When, my period, for this month was done and dusted, i then swilled my Diva Cup as i usually would after each time i emptied it, with femfresh and water. I then used the same method with my saucepan and boiling water, ready for mother nature the following month.

Would i recommend the diva cup?

ABBBBBBSOLUTLY.
yes. It can be a faff. But i think the more times your use it the comfortable it is to insert and take out. I personally didn't experience much discomfort only the times that i mentioned and maybe towards the end of my period when quite frankly my fandango had just had enough at this point and wanted to be left alone with a nice pair of granny pants to console with.

It is sooo much cleaner than wearing sanitary towels. That was my biggest baine, was how messy i felt when i wore them. With tampons, my biggest concern was TSS (toxic shock syndrome) which always worried me. I always felt some discomfort to during the week with inserting and taking out. Also with tampons, i didn't want to wear them over night, as it would exceeded the maximum time to keep them in, which then resulted in sani pads, which can sometimes leak onto bed sheets.

So it's swings and roundabouts really. The faff of insertion definitely gets easier, the taking out part not so much but again, doing that in the shower if possible is so much better.


It does give me peace of mind knowing that i can if need be, leave it in for the maximum 10-12 hours and i am so happy my body has accepted it and doesn't cause me personally too much discomfort.
